Local interest list
A local interest list, or register, is a list of buildings, structures, and spaces that are considered to be of particular local interest. This interest can relate to architectural, historic or heritage merits that are important to the local community.
Although the assessment criteria used is similar to those for listed buildings and registered parks and gardens, the difference is that they are only recognised as being of local importance rather than of national importance.
The aim of the list is to identify and safeguard assets which are deemed to be important to the local area and ensure that their inclusion on the list is taken into consideration before any planning decisions relating to repairs, alterations, extensions, and so on, are made.
Unlike the national lists, they have no statutory protection in legislation and inclusion on the list does not impose additional restrictions on them.
